- Confessions of a home-schooler | Salon Life – A lot of people have been bashing home-schooling lately. I, personally, have no opinion on the subject. Kids have to learn some place and it seems to me that one place is just about as good as any other. And it’s not like the public school system is so great.

We all have met someone who is awkward and socially dysfunctional because of their lack of social interactions with peers.
But what about home schoolers?
(rimshot)
The ‘lack of social interaction’ argument against home schooling is the weakest one you can muster.
Home schoolers have tons of social interaction. Social interactions takes place in the neighborhood, at youth groups, church, sports leagues, with other home school children.
Are there dysfunctional home schoolers? Sure. And they’d be dysfunctional in public schools as well.

Just a note here: The comments that Mr. Dunbar is responding to –as well as my response to her– have been removed at the request of that commenter.
What is social functionality anyway? Do home-schooled kids become criminals in any greater numbers than public school kids? I have no idea. Do they have trouble with small talk at parties? Once again, no idea. I do and I went to catholic and public school. Like I said — I have no real opinion on the topic. I figure kids grow up to be assholes no matter what you do with them.
