Send Leonard Cohen Twenty Bucks!

Recently, Leonard Cohen discovered that his manager stole all his money.  Now Cohen is touring to try to make some more money.  Then Leonard Cohen fell down on stage.  And that’s when I got worried.

Leonard Cohen is an old man.  A music tour is hard on someone who is in their mid-twenties and Cohen is in his mid-seventies.   He should be retired, relaxing with a bottle of wine, a block of hash and some pretty young thing to keep him company.  He should not be dancing around like a monkey on a stage for a bunch of people who can afford Leonard Cohen tickets.  He’s done enough.

There’s no need for him to sing those same old songs again.  He already sang them better and even recorded them for your listening pleasure. This tour is like watching a senior having to work at McDonald’s because some Nigerian prince stole their pension.  It’s depressing.

Just let the motherfucker sit down!  He’s earned himself a bloody seat.  Just let him sit down!

If you can afford a Leonard Cohen ticket, you can afford to just send him twenty bucks.

Really, we should all send Leonard Cohen twenty bucks.  We should just say thank you.  You’ve done more than enough, take a day off.  We’ll get by on your records and videos.  We’ll do just fine.  Write some poetry and relax.

My twenty bucks would just be a thank you for Dress Rehearsal Rag.  And it’d be a bargain.

So, I leave it to you, Grumpy Readers, to set up the FB group or whatever, to find out where we can all send twenty bucks and do all the work.  (I’m really more of a idea man.)  He’s earned his twenty bucks.  Give an old man a fucking break.  Just let him sit down.

Well put, and I couldn’t agree more about ‘Dress Rehearsal rag,’ either, an all-time favourite of mine. Odd that ‘Songs of Love and Hate’ isn’t one of his more popular albums…

An idea man? Whatever. Perhaps you missed the reviews. But basically people are falling all over themselves to see Leonard in concert. He has sold out everywhere. The tour began May 2008 and will just about reach 200 concerts by the end of this year. The Belfast Telegraph wrote simply: “Genius.” El Periodico wrote of the Barcelona concert this month: “Viewing Leonard Cohen last night at the Palau Sant Jordi was to enjoy a transcendent creator in his prime.” The point is that the world is made better with Leonard on the road sharing his work. He stopped needing the money sometime last year and now he just tours because he can. Call it his declaration of independence for the senior set. After all, you probably won’t want them to pull the plug on you either when you reach his age.

I take exception to the language used in this “comment,” as well as the mean spirited attitude that prompted the “comment” in the first place.
What prompts some individuals to attempt to bring successful people down? If I understood that I would be the same type of loser! It is also mind-boggling that these individuals actually have the time to engage in such a pursuit. However, Leonard Cohen’s Concert in Tel Aviv was a
great success as all of his previous concerts on the 2009 Tour have been. He is ageless, profoundly talented, kind and generous. He never needs to “sit down,” as far as I and his legion of fans are concerned. So self-styled, would be critic “stifle yourself,” and crawl back under that rock where you belong! And, a very gracious good day to you also. Elizabeth,in Phoenix (USA) Dated: Sept.30,2009

Thank you for your interest Ms. Moore. But I assure you, Leonard Cohen is not ageless. He was born on Sept 21 1934. This makes him 75 years old.

I think he made a nice packet from the winner of last years UK X Factor releasing ‘Hallelujah’ as their first single. Talk about howling mobs of morons! x
