Porky Hefer of Animal Farm has made a house in the style of the Weaver Birds. Although it would be useless in Canada, it’s a nifty idea with the added benefit of looking much like a skull.
I’ve never wanted to live in a nest. Like most people, if I could do just one thing birds could do, it would probably be dragging a mountain goat off a cliff. Living in a home assembled from scraps of wood, lined with mud and covered in my faeces might be good enough for my family but it’s not the sort of thing I want to do. I happen to enjoy plumbing, rooms and a nap on the couch.
But still, I have a soft spot for the strikingly useless and the people who invent these ridiculous things for reasons we can only guess at. I enjoy picturing a young Porky Hefer gazing up at a bird’s nest and thinking: “One day, I’ll live there.”
