I like a nice buttonhole but rarely wear one because carnations remind me of donkeys and the symbolism of roses is fraught with danger. I would hate to suggest lust with a red one or jealousy with a yellow.
In my portrait, I chose blue because it symbolizes unattainable ideals and mystery. What’s so mysterious? The meaning of the blue rose, of course.
But this Ballistic Rose, made from bulletproof nylon, is equally mysterious. If one ignores the rambling artist’s statement –as one always should– its symbolism remains undecided. Does it say, my heart is bulletproof? War is beautiful? Or perhaps, as I like, beauty is indestructible.
If you would like to win one, perhaps to give to me, MoCO Loco is having a contest. Write the best slogan and win. I would enter but I think “Scentless Violence” is impossible to beat.
