It’s nice to sit down and do nothing for an evening. One would assume that I’ve been doing a lot of that — seeing that I’m on vacation. The assumption would be wrong. For the past two days, I’ve been turning the blue room green. This has been quite a bit of work. Enjoyable though. And I’m seeing some progress.
Finally.
According to this blog, I began this process in February and started thinking about it a year before that. The blog is wrong. I actually thought about it for years before that. Fucking years.
Here’s how the room looked back then:
Until now, it hasn’t changed much. That Star Wars thing went a while ago. Other than that it’s basically remained the same. Other than major things, there were very few things to be done with it.
Yesterday, I started on the major things. I moved all the furniture, scraped away that hideous wallpaper trim and started priming.

It looks pretty rough but I actually preferred this to that wallpaper trim. I hated that trim. And that blue. Coming home to this adolescent squalor combined with Portuguese Mom interior design was always a kick in the nuts. I’ve lived here for five years or so and have wanted it gone for five years or so. But I’m slow. It took me two years to take down the straw brooms in the kitchen. And they were just hanging there.
But it’s finally gone. Thank God.
And here’s what we have now:

I’m still not done but it’s a drastic improvement. None of that stuff is going back up on the walls. They’ll remain blank since I’m no longer attempting to cover an objectionable shade of blue.
I should get around to doing things in a more timely fashion. That’s what I think.
