Slowly Solving the Shoes

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a problem with shoes. It’s so bad that I related to  Geekigirl’s post, “The Battle of the Bra“, about how difficult it is for certain ladies to find fitting undergarments.   Although I’m not a flat-chested woman, I’m a large-footed man.  Our problems are the same.  Mass production steamrolled us.

Stores just don’t carry my size.  They don’t sell enough pairs and the boxes take up too much space.  I can find new army boots and sneakers but nothing else.  I’ve more or less stopped trying; instead deciding to bitterly deride footwear while secretly scouring used shops for anything that fits.

About once a year, I find something I like.

These are a pair of Mondo Uomos that retail for about five hundred dollars and which I bought at Value Village for thirty.  Although I had no idea what Mondo Uomos were, the workmanship and the owl-like pattern on the toe caught my attention.  So I bought them.

They just about fit.
