Dirty, Dull and Dangerous

robotplane.jpg

The robot planes who have been used by the military are about to be used by scientists.  Well, that’s if meteorologists can really be called scientists.  And until I see a decent longrange forecast, I don’t think they can.  These people are astrologers of some kind.

Anyway, they’ll be using these drones to collect information — even though complexity theory informs us that no matter how much information we gather on a weather system our predictive capacity after a certain point is still the same as a reasonable guess — and to perform missions that the scientists call “dirty, dull and dangerous.”

I like that but it makes me wonder about its opposite: Clean, sharp and safe.  Is that the only sort of mission that humans are good for?  Sounds like going to the Walmart.
