
The robot planes who have been used by the military are about to be used by scientists. Well, that’s if meteorologists can really be called scientists. And until I see a decent longrange forecast, I don’t think they can. These people are astrologers of some kind.
Anyway, they’ll be using these drones to collect information — even though complexity theory informs us that no matter how much information we gather on a weather system our predictive capacity after a certain point is still the same as a reasonable guess — and to perform missions that the scientists call “dirty, dull and dangerous.”
I like that but it makes me wonder about its opposite: Clean, sharp and safe. Is that the only sort of mission that humans are good for? Sounds like going to the Walmart.
