South Korea is planning to have robots build their high-rises by 2010. This will reduce injuries and the amount of time it takes to build one. The Construction and Transportation Ministry claims that the process will be almost completely automated. The techs are already there, they say, now it’s just a matter of using them.
I wonder what sort of impact this will have on architecture. There must be some great ideas that were too dangerous or expensive to build. Our robot friends will expand the realm of the possible by the exact amount they increase efficiency.
In South Korea, things are about to get 15% to 25% better. Unless we catch up that will make us at least 15% to 25% worse.
