STAIR 1.0 or Ryan 2.0akley?

fr_robot_small.jpgIt looks like they’re finally working on a robot to replace me. STAIR 1.0 learns through trial and error with the end goal of performing simple tasks like:

  • Pick up any object lying in home or office.
  • Unload a dishwasher.
  • Fetch an object from an office, in response to a verbal request.
  • Prepare simple meals using a normal household kitchen.
  • Tidy up a living-room after a party, including picking up and throwing away trash, and loading the dishwasher.
  • Using multiple tools (screwdriver, hammer, pliers, etc.) as needed, assemble a bookshelf.
  • That’s pretty much all I do.

If they just put a suit and tie on this thing, give it an exhaust pipe to vent noxious smoke, and a poking cane, I’ll be totally obsolete. I’m pretty sure that it can already sit down at parties and not talk. If it needs to make conversation, the designers can just translate these last two years of blogs into audio files and that into a keyword operated chatbot. It may not fool anyone into thinking it’s intelligent but neither do I.
