Since I’m taking a couple of Ryan days – I figured I should send you guys over to Jeff Lemire’s blog. He writes and draws comic books. Er, sorry, “graphic novels”.
His work is great. It’s down to earth and fucked up at the same time. I guess you’d call it magic realism – but the reality is magic and the magic is real. Or something like that. I reviewed one of his books for BlogTO and, if you guys haven’t bought it yet – you should.
He also gives me free comic books and that’s the sort of behavior we should all encourage. I’d like him to do a portrait of Grumpy – but hey – no pressure or anything.
At his online store, you can get pay him to draw a portrait of your favorite superhero — that’s why I want him to do me — and the prices are really good. Shit, this guy just got reviewed in Entertainment Weekly. I’d say buy all the original work you can while you can still afford it.
