I’ve quit reviewing books for BlogTO. It was fun for a while but it started to feel like homework. (One need only look at my less than stellar academic record to know how I feel abut homework.) And I believe that the site’s book review section is over too. There just isn’t much of demand for that sort of thing. I’m not even sure that there should be.
I’m still writing for BlogTO but I’ll be doing some pieces that should approximate real journalism. I prefer that. There’s something very weird about writing about writing. It’s a bit too much of a remove from reality. And let me tell you, my first trip to a bookstore after I made this decision was great. I felt like a weight had been lifted off me. I could read for myself again.
That feels good. I’m pretty happy today.
