These were taken by Daryl Banks. He’s an old friend, co-worker and former roommate. Few people on this planet know me as well as he does. He took these after we reached a stalemate in chess.
(I really should have won but some incredibly stupid play gave him the advantage. Then he really should have won but some incredibly stupid play evened the field. No one should have won and no one did. Chess is ruthless and just. That’s why it’s the greatest game ever created by humans.)
Anyway, I actually had a reason to dress up tonight. I had a date. It seemed to go well. The girl didn’t attack me or run away. I take that as a compliment. We ate Ethiopian food. It’s shared. I hate sharing food. Rather, I hated sharing food. Other people’s fingers always made me feel like a lion defending his kill. But this finally killed my neuroses. Good. I needed to dump that baggage.
Anyway, I like Daryl’s photos. He always knows how to cut through the grumpy and get to the owl. It’s amazing that, after knowing me for so long, he doesn’t just stick a Hitler moustache and devil horns on me. He certainly knows that I deserve them. I take that as a compliment too.
