Some of the animals in High Park have, for some reason, elected to live behind fences. I took some pictures of these. They seemed agreeable to the idea.
This strange and exotic fellow is called a peacock. When I was a child one snuck up behind me and made an ungodly noise, sending me leaping straight into the air.
I think it’s pretty obvious why this bison decided to live behind a fence. It helps with the whole not getting shot from a train so Europeans can commit genocide thing. His home smelled of hay and dung. I like both those smells. It reminds me of childhood visits to a farm owned by a British Sea Captain, his hippie wife and their gifted children. Meant to be seen and not heard, us children would spend a lot of time in the barn, shooting airguns at pigeons or working.
When I was a child I attempted to urinate on an emu. It attempted to bite off my penis. Ever since then I have been neurotically attracted to these strange birds.
I don’t know what sort of beast this is, but it has lovely teeth and a cute lip.
This is a llama. When I was a child one spat at my mom. Years later I broke into that zoo, found the llama and attempted to spit in its face to avenge her. The cowardly beast ran away.
This pigeon has given up the feathered rat race to live in an enclosure. I suspect that it is trying to avoid The Chocolate Creeper that has been terrorizing its species.
