Although Ryan Oakley began his career as a simple rake (drunk) he has since become Toronto’s most renowned flaneur (no car) and notorious dandy (overdresses). A misanthropic composer of psycho-geographical fictions (sci-fi), he is also a server of food, a tender of bar and a washer of dishes. While performing all these functions with efficiency and elegance (disdain and malice), he somehow finds the time to publicly criticize friends, strangers and cultural crap.

After writing class, when all us students were looped on cheap red wine, I got the point of inebriation called “morose”.
While I was kvetching about all the shit in my life, one of the rich-kid students who never had to cut the grass or wash his own laundry said, “But your suffering will give you insight for your writing. Imagine all the characters you will be able to introduce, compared to me.”

I should perhaps clarify a few things here. Life is not merciful, that does not mean that we should not be. I just need to know what I’m dealing with.
The Marquis De Sade said something about Voltaire, Rosseau and their selective hallucination of mankind. I can’t remember the exat words but it was something like – they would change man before they even understand him.
