I’ve been a bit grumpier than normal lately. I think it might have something to do with Roboexotica. You see, while I was in Toronto, writing book reviews, other people were in Vienna, covering a cocktail-robot convention. Yup, cocktail-robots.
It’s actually a good thing that I wasn’t there. I like robots and I love the hootch, but, after watching the videos, I’ve found that the two just don’t mix. Those robots spill a lot of fucking alcohol. I would have gone mad — quite mad, indeed– if I had to watch that much liquor being wasted.
In spite of that the convention’s founder maintains that “The robots shouldn’t be efficient. They shouldn’t behave like they were in a factory, they should be cultured and urbane.”
I’m sympathetic but that’s total bullshit. They have to be both. It’s impossible to be cultured and urbane while you’re spilling a drink. Believe me, I’ve tried. I could even supply female references if any of the said females had of provided me with their phone numbers. But I’ll try again tonight. So I guess the moral of the story is keep trying or something like that. A bird in the hand? Don’t drink and blog?
Hey, you know what some good advice is? That thing about an apple every day.

thanks for this wonderfully grumpy post!
in fact i wish you had been here to go mad about all the booze spilt – maybe next year?
BTW most bots showing at roboexotica could supply female witnesses (the said females have provided the makers with their phone numbers) for their cultured and urbane behaviour – spilling or no spilling involved!
cheers
