I love video games. Especially the Civilization Series. Some people –crazy people– think that the hours I spend playing Civ 4 are a waste of time. I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve learned a lot from this game. Here’s a few pieces of wisdom about the realpolitik that I’ve picked up:
1. Oil is a perfectly good reason to fight a war -actually one of the best reasons to fight a war. You need that shit.
2. War is fucking expensive. It can be a horrendous waste of time and resources. Win or make peace. Quagmires are not an option.
3. Once you have nukes, make sure that no one else gets nukes. Even if you have to nuke them.
4. Some world leaders –thinking of you Montezuma– are total dickheads.
And that’s about it. But that’s worth hours of gameplay. Anyway, it’s more fun than reading about politics. And Civ City Rome really sucks. Don’t waste your money. I did and I regret it.
