They’ve found evidence of water on Mars. I, for one, think that they’ve also found life. In August NASA and SETI sat down and starting thinking about how to inform the public that life exists off this planet – specifically on Mars. (I covered it here.)
They concluded that the information should be released in a slow and controlled fashion. John Rummel, NASA’s planetary protection officer in Washington DC said: “There’s not much to be gained by rushing to publication, and much to be lost – mainly your credibility and public confidence.” This water on Mars thing seems like another small step towards the big news.
I’m going to climb out on a limb here. I think one of the Rovers found something and we’re going to get the straight dope within the year. I’m not expecting it to be life with six heads and tentacles, but I sure hope that it is.

This is why OpenLuna (www.openluna.org) will keep all of their data feeds open and publicly accessible. No chance for the aliens to sneak by that way…
