I’m 28 years old today. I guess that means it’s too late to be a rock icon. By now I should have a bunch of albums out, a heroin habit and be dead. Oh well, two out of three ain’t bad.
But here’s some info about age 28:
Caligula, Rome’s craziest emperor, was murdered at age twenty eight. Someone must have been pissed about him making them eat a plate of shit.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle introduced Sherlock Holmes.
Napoleon conquered Egypt. But, before he was 29, Nelson destroyed his fleet in the Nile and Napoleon ended up stranded in Egypt for over a year.
So, I guess it could be better and it could be worse. While I haven’t made someone eat plates of poo (keeping my fingers crossed for tonight) I also haven’t had my fleet destroyed. Yet.
On another note; I’m working tonight. But it could be worse. On May Third 1808, the French celebrated the 170th pre-anniversary of my birth by shooting Spanish rebels in the street. Goya drew a picture of it. This picture actually hangs on the wall where I work. So every time a patron annoys me, which is constantly, I can look at that painting and remember, some people actually have real problems. I should just be happy to not be getting shot. So should the patrons.

Coincidence:
The world’s oldest great horned owl was captured this spring in Hamilton County, Ohio – an incredible 28 years old! I am sure there are birders who will read this who weren’t even a twinkle in their parent’s eyes when that owl was banded as a nestling in 1977, not far from where it was recovered. I guess when you are the King of the avian food chain, one can live to a ripe old age!
