Nano Vs Government – Who You Got?

Ontario’s Health Promotion Minister (the man in charge of not drinking, smoking, fucking, fighting or eating barbecue) wants to ban tobacco. Perhaps the lack of second hand smoke would make him more comfortable at parties. That is, if he has ever actually been to a party.

“We know it kills people,” he said. “If I had the ultimate authority to ban tobacco from the province or the country, of course I would.”

But soon it might not kill anyone at all. Researchers at MIT and Brigham and Women’s Hospital have developed nano particles that can deliver chemotherapy to cancerous cells while leaving the healthy ones untouched.

Dr. Omid C. Farokhzad, had this to say : “A single injection of our nanoparticles completely eradicated the tumors in five of the seven treated animals, and the remaining animals also had significant tumor reduction, compared to the controls.”

So the cancer colony I have so carefully tended in my lungs might be in grave danger. Better it than me I suppose. And you just know that once cancer goes down, heart disease, emphysema and all of that other nonsense will be soon to follow.

I wonder if that will make a difference to our Minister of No Fun. I’m guessing that it won’t.
