This is an exciting moment for me because a stranger actually submitted a story. The less I have to think the happier I am – so thanks Dylon. If you have a web page or something I’d link to it; for all the good it would do.
Under the subject line “The Robots Aren’t Going to Destroy Humanity, Just Absorb Us” he sent me this interesting article about cyborgs. It’s basically a state of the union about the technology.
The good news is that soon we’ll be transhuman. And thank God. I’m not really worried about a robot uprising. I’m much more worried about human habitat destruction. The robots will probably build the world to suit their needs. We’ll be about as important to them as the Spotted Owl is to us.
So we better use our much vaunted human adaptability to learn to live off electricity. I have a hunch that grocery stores will soon become an endangered species. (And yes – I do think stores are a species; sure they’re not organic but big fucking deal. Soon we won’t be either.)
As for the destruction or absorption thing; tomorrow I’m not going to destroy my dinner, I’ll merely absorb it. But whatever I call the process, it ends in shit.
