Post Human South Korea

The South Korean Ministry of Information and Communication has predicted that there will be a robot in every South Korean home between 2015 and 2020. But Oh Sang Rok, manager of the ministry’s intelligent service robot project is even more ambitious, saying: “My personal goal is to put a robot in every home by 2010.”

These robots, which should be in mass production by 2007, are service centered. They’ll be cleaning, teaching English to children, dancing for bored kids, providing security, relaying messages and providing directions. They’re basically halfway between a pet and a vacuum cleaner.

But can they love? Bah, who am I trying to fool? As long as they keep their nose out of my crotch, I’ll be happy.
