Tales From a Robot Riverbank

There’s always been some debate about what actually constitutes intelligence in a machine or even a person. But this debate has been totally ignored by the marketing of GUPI, who is boldly described as an “Intelligent Robot Guinea Pig.”

One could say that guinea pigs are not intelligent creatures but they would be very wrong. They obviously have never seen “Tales From a Riverbank” or, its sequel series, “Once Upon a Hamster.” But I’ve seen far too much of both shows.

The first one was on televsion when I was a child and I loved it. The second one came out when I was in highschool. I would fill 6 hour VHS tapes of it, shows about sharks and Mr. Bumpy. I’d take a bunch of acid and watch these talking rodents go on adventures and solve their problems. The smartest rodent of all, and my favorite, was G.P. He was a guinea pig who always had a wacky new invention that was always called a “Thingamabob” or “Whatchamacallit.”

I even bought a guinea pig because of that show, named her GAP and tried to teach her to walk on a leash. The name was some sort of code but I can’t remember what the hell it was all about. (Did I mention that I was taking a lot of acid?) Anyway, maybe GUPI would shit less than GAP did. I doubt that it could possibly shit more.
