Here’s a device that’s supposed to do everything yet, until very recently, no one seemed to know what it did. Now it’s all clear.
“An elegant solution to complicated living, ViaCube streamlines our everyday work and personal activities. “
Fantastic, I thought. Finally a cube that I can use as a toilet. But, upon reading more, I discovered that this device cannot be used as a toilet nor can you cook food with it. The designer’s idea of personal activities is quite different than mine:
“It combines voice communication, video communication, facsimile communication, task management, calendaring, contact management, emails, instant messaging and SMS into one integrated, seamless platform. The result is a simple and easy to use lifestyle product.”
Putting aside the question of how much we should communicate given how little we have to say, we should, perhaps, consider something else. If we need all of that hullabaloo, we do not need a simple and easy to use product. We need a simple and easy to use life. Perhaps a life with one less box barking orders.
