What I find most disturbing about the mice that were born with human brain cells, is not the mice, the scientists or even the ethics of the whole thing. It is the sloppy jargon.
Until reading this article I had no idea that bioethicists have a “yuck factor” or that this research is bumping up against it.
Yuck. Indeed, a yuck factor. Indeed.
What the fuck are these people talking about? Is there a precise point when people say yuck? And this is somehow important to bioethicists?
I mean penicillin came from bread mold. If moldy bread doesn’t get a yuck from you then you’ve never accidentally eaten a piece.
Instead of acting like a bunch of little girls with a worm thrust into their faces, I would humbly suggest that these bioethicists concentrate their attention on teaching morals to the coming race of super mice before they burrow through our eardrums and feast on our brains.
